Voting with a Biblical Worldview – Part 7

Sermon Introduction

Today, we’re going to talk about Voting Biblically to Impact Our Nation.
Imagine you’re planting a tree—a small sapling that seems insignificant amidst much older, taller trees. Planting that tree may seem like a small act. Yet you know that with care and perseverance, it will grow tall, providing shade, shelter, and fruit for generations.
As you plant, you feel both urgency and hope as you look to future growth. You do not control the weather or how quickly it grows, but you do know that your act of planting, caring, and nurturing is vital.
In a similar way, voting with a biblical worldview is like planting seeds for God’s kingdom in our nation. With each vote, we’re planting a choice that will impact future generations.
Our responsibility is to vote, to stand for God’s truth, and to trust Him for the growth, even if we don’t see immediate results. Just as with the tree, our faithfulness in the small things matters to God. He is able to nurture and bring increase beyond what we can see.

1 Corinthians 3:7 (ESV): "So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth."

When we vote in alignment with God’s Word, we’re planting seeds for His truth. Yet, it is God who brings the increase. We obey God by voting, but we trust the outcomes to God, who oversees each detail according to His will.

Galatians 6:9 (ESV): "And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."

As we vote, we’re also reminded to stay hopeful, even if we don’t see an immediate harvest. God sees every act of faithfulness and every stand we take for His truth. In His timing, our perseverance will bear fruit, and we’ll see the impact of seeds planted with faith.
We are assured of God’s ultimate sovereignty over all outcomes:

Psalm 33:11 (ESV): "The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations."

While earthly outcomes may vary, God’s purposes never waver. The results of this election matter, yet God’s plans for His kingdom are unwavering and will endure across generations. As we vote and trust Him with the results, we can be confident that He will work all things to His purposes.

Vote to Bring God’s Righteous Influence to Our Nation

Voting with a biblical worldview allows us to bring God’s righteousness to our communities. Every vote we cast should reflect His justice, truth, and compassion, shaping our nation for His glory.

Proverbs 14:34 (ESV): "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."

A nation is blessed when it pursues righteousness. Choosing leaders and policies aligned with God’s standards is one way we can promote this. Voting biblically exalts God’s principles over society’s shifting values.
Before voting, ask God to guide you toward candidates and policies that promote righteousness. In your bulletin is a voter’s guide that shows where each presidential candidate and party stands on 16 important issues. Use it to guide your voting and conversations with others.

Jeremiah 29:7 (ESV): "But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the LORD on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare."

This verse, spoken to exiles living in a pagan nation, calls us to seek the good of the place we live, even if it doesn’t fully reflect God’s values. Voting is one way we actively contribute to the welfare of our communities. Our votes are an opportunity to bless our city, state, and nation.

Matthew 5:13–14 (ESV): "You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."

Jesus calls His followers to be both salt and light. We are to work to preserve what is good in our nation and to shine His truth into dark places. Voting is a means of extending our influence by bringing God’s light and truth into policies that affect our lives.
Let us see our vote as a light in a dark world. Pray that your choices reflect God’s truth and strengthen what is good in our nation. Voting with a biblical worldview is one way we bring God’s righteous influence into our nation. As we vote, let each choice we make reflect our commitment to His values, trusting that He can use our influence to guide our country for His purposes.
We make our votes not on personalities, but on the policies of each candidate and their party platforms. We cast our votes based on the policies put in place by each candidate in the past, comparing 2016–2020 and 2020–2024. Track records are far more important than what candidates say they are going to do in the future.
In our bulletin is a Voter’s Guide on each candidate and their party’s position on 16 issues that have clear biblical direction. Vote to bring God’s righteous influence to our nation.

Reject Passive Faith by Encouraging Others to Vote Biblically

Our responsibility isn’t limited to our own vote. God calls us to reject passivity by encouraging others to vote from a biblical perspective.
Recent research from the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University indicates that approximately 32 million self-identified Christians who regularly attend church are unlikely to vote in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. Stated reasons why these people are not going to vote include:

  • Not interested in politics.
  • Dislike for both candidates.
  • Thinking the election outcome will be rigged and their vote won’t count.
  • Not knowing enough about the candidates to decide.

Do not assume that all our Christian friends are going to vote. We must encourage them.

Hebrews 10:24 (ESV): "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works."

Part of encouraging others to good works is helping them see the significance of voting biblically. By supporting each other in this way, we strengthen our influence as the body of Christ.
Reach out to family, friends, and fellow church members. Encourage them to seek God’s guidance in voting and share our resources that reflect a biblical worldview.

James 4:17 (ESV): "So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin."

James emphasizes that we are accountable when we know the right thing but fail to act. Voting biblically and encouraging others to do the same is part of our obedience to God’s call to spread His truth.

Galatians 6:2 (ESV): "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."

Helping others make godly choices in this election season is part of bearing each other’s burdens. Offering support and guidance fulfills Christ’s law of love as we encourage each other to act on God’s truth.
Help others be equipped and confident in their voting choices. Offer to pray with them, share biblical perspectives, and support them in aligning their vote with Scripture.

Application

Rejecting passive faith means encouraging others to vote with a heart for God’s truth. You can influence others through personal conversation, emails, texts, social media, yard signs, information, and voter guides. We still have a few yard signs to distribute.

Pray for God’s Will in a Just and Fair Election

Beyond voting, our most vital role is to pray for God’s will to be done in this election. We ask Him to bring leaders with godly policies to office and for the election to be conducted with integrity and justice.

1 Timothy 2:1–2 (ESV): "First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way."

Paul’s instructions to pray for leaders include praying even before they’re in office. By praying for the election, we seek God’s guidance for leaders who will enable a peaceful, godly society.
In our daily prayers, ask God to bring leaders of integrity into office. Pray that they would govern justly and uphold the freedom for believers to live godly and peaceful lives.

Proverbs 21:1 (ESV): "The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will."

This verse reassures us that God holds the hearts of leaders in His hand. No matter the outcome of the election, God remains sovereign, guiding our leaders according to His plans. Trust in God’s control, even beyond the election results. Pray for His sovereign direction over leaders’ hearts, confident that His purposes will prevail. Pray for the safety of all candidates.

Ephesians 5:11 (ESV): "Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them."

Alongside prayer, God calls us to stand against works of darkness. In the context of the election, we ask God to reveal and expose any hidden agendas, manipulations, or acts of corruption. Pray that God would bring to light any darkness within the election process. Ask Him to reveal truth, ensure justice, and expose anything contrary to His righteousness.

Matthew 6:10 (ESV): "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven."

Jesus instructs us to pray with a focus on God’s kingdom, asking for His will to be done. In this election, it means praying for outcomes that align with His justice, mercy, and truth. Make this your continual prayer for the election.
Lord, may Your kingdom values be reflected in the choices made, and may You be honored in every result.

Application

While we do our part in voting and encouraging others, we entrust the outcomes to God through prayer. Pray for a fair election, godly leaders, and above all, for His will to be done in our nation as it is in heaven. Let us be confident that He will expose darkness and uphold truth. Finally, may we pray that somehow this election would usher in massive revival across our nation, changing the course of our history.

Conclusion

As we prepare for the upcoming election, let us be faithful in our call. Vote to bring God’s righteous influence to our nation, aligning each choice with His truth. Reject passive faith by encouraging others to vote biblically, knowing that together we can amplify God’s influence in society. And most importantly, pray for God’s will in a just and fair election, trusting Him to guide every outcome, expose darkness, and ensure that His purposes are accomplished.
Let us approach this election prayerfully, faithfully, and purposely, seeking to be salt and light as we advance His kingdom values in our nation.
As we close, let’s remember that voting with a biblical worldview is more than a civic duty. It’s an act of faith and hope. Just like planting a tree, each vote we cast is a seed sown into the soil of our nation—an investment in God’s kingdom, rooted in trust that He will bring growth in His way and time.
We may not see every impact immediately, and we may not control every outcome. But we can rest in the knowledge that God sees and blesses every act of obedience. He takes the seeds we plant in faith, nurtures them, and weaves them into His grand design. Whether the election results align with our hopes or not, we are assured that our efforts for God’s truth are never in vain. He is always at work in ways we may not yet understand.
As we go forward, let’s continue to pray, to trust, and to be people who bring God’s light, confident that He holds our future in His hands.
